The name Blue-blood derives from their noble devotion to their owners. The breed was bred for and is still used for herding. It originated back in the 1800s in Southern Georgia. The foundation dogs that were used to make up the breed are Old Southern Bulldog, Catahoula Leopard, Black Mouth Curr, Bandog, Old White English and Colby Pitbull. The first all breed registry to recognize the Alapaha Blue-blood Bulldog was the Animal Research Foundation(ARF) in 1986.
