He was a prolific maker of direct-to-video feature films in the 1980s and 1990s under the banner of MURLIN FILMS.After the end of the VHS rental era Philip Lyndon came on board to help Mike into the early digital era with the formation of MURLYN FILMS in the early 2000s and did well with self-distribution and on the festival circuit especially Horror-On-Sea.Philip Lyndon met Mike Reed on a film set and arranged for the two Mikes to meet; Reed recorded the last interview with Murphy as part of FilmRaker. Before Reed could meet Murphy again to ask about online distribution of the back catalogue, Murphy had passed on leaving a body of work largely unseen by the world.
