Carbon City Lights is a groovy alternative indie rock band based in San Luis Obispo. They have a great energy on stage with a range of styles with some groovy tunes that make you dance, upbeat pop, classic rock, and some folk with a country twang. Listeners will appreciate the authenticity that comes from the lyrics and shines through in powerful vocals. Performances are a lot of fun featuring extended jams with tight rhythm and dueling guitars. Their six studio albums ring with influences of Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, and Coldplay. Carbon City Lights started as a solo project by Michael Venia in 2010 in Toronto, Canada and immediately gained listeners on YouTube, with some music videos going viral and achieving number 1 most viewed in the country overnight. Michael (singer-songwriter), moved to SLO and in 2018, joined with Central Coast locals, Bret Heenan (lead guitar), Dan Hernandez (bass), and Gerald Purify (drums) to start performing across the Central Coast.
