The Himalayan Beacon, known until 2006 simply as BEACON is a magazine published from India. Nicknamed the 'Fire Hose' for its colourful appearance and undiplomatic journalistic style, it is often regarded as a source of record, meaning that it is frequently relied upon as the authoritative reference for events especially in the Eastern Himalayan sector. Founded in 1998, the magazine is popular among readers of all ages. Its ISSN number is 2348-781X.Beacon publishes numerous highly investigative articles with international ramifications. Articles on Chinas claim on Indian Territory particularly Sikkim and Darjeeling Hills published in June 1998 issue, for instance, led to major diplomatic scuffle between India and China which took years to heal. Ultimately, in 2003, China acknowledged Sikkim as an inalienable part of India.
